Guy Raz is a renowned American journalist, correspondent and radio host who currently works at National Public Radio (NPR). Raz has been described as “one of the most popular podcasters in history” by The New York Times and his podcasts have a combined monthly audience of 19.2 million downloads. He is also the co-creator of three NPR shows: TED Radio Hour, How I Built This, and NPR’s first children’s show Wow in the World, co-hosted with Mindy Thomas.
Guy began his career as an intern on All Things Considered with NPR in 1997. He then went on to work as a production assistant, studio director to foreign correspondent and breaking news presenter. His first job in journalism was as an assistant to legendary reporter Daniel Schorr.
In 2000, when Raz was 25, he became head of NPR’s Berlin branch, where he covered Eastern Europe and the Balkans. During his six-year stay abroad, Guy covered everything from wars and conflict zones to sports and entertainment. He reported from more than 40 countries, including the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Macedonia, and the ongoing conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

He also served as NPR’s London bureau chief and, between 2004 and 2006, as CNN’s Jerusalem correspondent. During that time, Raz chronicled everything from the rise of Hamas as a political power to the crippling of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005. In 2006, he returned to NPR as a defense correspondent covering the Pentagon and the US Armed Forces.
Raz received the Edward R. Murrow Award and the Daniel Schorr Award for Journalism for his reporting from Iraq. NPR has received two duPont awards and a Peabody award as a result of its reporting. He was a Livingston Award finalist four times. He has received several awards, including the National Headliner Award and the NABJ Award. He studied classical history at Harvard University for a year as a Nieman Journalism Scholar in 2008.
