Sharon Lawson is an award-winning journalist working for FOX5 News, first joining as the anchor of Good Day Atlanta in September 2017. As of April 2019, she was chosen to co-anchor the new 10am Good Day . for their papers for the rest of the morning news.
Prior to joining FOX 5, Sharon had 14 years of experience at NBC 6 in Miami, working as an anchor/reporter. Her two-decade career began on the Gulf Coast of South Florida. After graduating from University of the Center Florida, she began working as an all-purpose correspondent for the Sarasota WWSB. At the same time, she worked as a photographer, editor and reporter. This set her up for her 1995 debut as an anchor at the WMDT in Salisbury, Maryland.
Between 1997 and 2000, Sharon worked at WHIO in Dayton, Ohio as a weekend anchor before taking on anchor duties at the WFTC in Minneapolis. However, she returned to the east coast of Florida to cover the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market.
Her passion for broadcast journalism started when she was 5 years old. Her mother was her biggest supporter, spying on her as she practiced intros and endings with a hairbrush and a mirror; “This is Sharon Lawson with the 6 o’clock news.” Her dream has now turned into a career of professional merit and community service.
Currently, her passion is to help young people fulfill their dreams, as her mother did. She strives to make a difference by providing nurturing environments for them and encouraging them to live their dreams.
A scholarship has been created in her honor, and she regularly mentors young women on their professional and spiritual walks. When not working, Sharon loves spending time with her husband Chris Pappas, running, biking, traveling the world, meeting people and collecting new stories to tell.
