Jenny Lumet is an American actress and screenwriter best known for writing the original screenplay for the 2008 Jonathan Demme film Rachel Getting Married. She has also written and produced The Mummy (2017) and Star Trek: Discovery (2017).
Lumet was born in New York, the youngest daughter of director, producer and screenwriter Sidney Lumet and Gail Buckley, a renowned journalist and writer. In 1984, she graduated from the Dalton School. At 17, Jenny worked as a coat checker at a restaurant called ‘Indochina’.
Jenny began her career as a voice actress in “Stage 4” of the 1975 independent animated film ‘Everybody Rides the Carousel’, portraying the various stages of life. She later had a brief role in the 1982 comedy/mystery film ‘Deathtrap’, adapted from Ira Levin’s 1978 play of the same name. Subsequently, she appeared in the 1988 drama film ‘Running on Empty’ directed by her father.
Lumet appeared in two films directed by her father, Deathtrap and Running on Empty, before playing the role of Nancy Bosch in her 1990 film Q&A.
