Kris Gutierrez is an American journalist who currently works as an anchor and reporter for KPRC-TV, an NBC affiliate in Houston. Additionally, he joined the station in March 2020 and joined Dominique Sachse, Chief Meteorologist Frank Billingsley and Director of Sports Randy McIlvot to anchor the station’s 6pm and 10pm newscasts.
Two months after joining the station, he hosted a news report of a tornado-ravaged Runway Bay, a story that made headlines. That broadcast earned him and the team an Emmy Award for Outstanding News in the Region.
Before joining his current station, he worked at NBC 5 in New York, where he was an anchor. While there, he anchored the 5 News station at 5. In 2014, he and the morning crew receive an Emmy for a newscast he anchored after a tornado landed. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding News Anchor in the same year. Furthermore, he worked for FOX News Channel in the Dallas office where he served as a national correspondent for 5 years.
While working there, he was the sole reporter responsible for all editorial content in the four-state region. He also reported live from Ft. Hood, less than 24 hours after the deadliest shooting at a military institution. After his education, he attended and graduated from Lewisville High School in Texas with a high school diploma. While in high school, he played football for the Fighting Farmers for four years. He later moved to Texas Christian University where he majored in broadcast journalism.
