Biography of Reeta Chakrabarti
Reeta Chakrabarti is a British journalist, broadcaster and correspondent currently working for BBC News. Chakrabarti is well known for presenting BBC News at One, BBC News at Six, BBC News at Ten and BBC Weekend News. Furthermore, she is famous for regularly presenting on BBC News Channel. Furthermore, she has also reported extensively in the UK and abroad for BBC News.
Born in Ealing, London, Chakrabarti lived in India as a teenager, where she attended Calcutta International School in Kolkata and King Edward VI High School for Girls. She went on to study English and French at Exeter College, Oxford from 1984 to 1988.
After graduating, she became a reporter for the Breakfast Program on the newly launched BBC Radio 5 Live in 1994. She later became a general news correspondent working on television and radio. In 1997, she became a correspondent for BBC Community Affairs. She covered the Stephen Lawrence investigation while in this position.
In 1999, she landed a role as a political correspondent for the BBC, working on a number of television and radio programmes. She has reported on politics for BBC One and BBC Two, among other BBC affiliates. Most notably, she was the educational correspondent for BBC News in January 2011. Later, in May 2014, she was appointed as a news presenter on BBC One and the BBC News Channel.

Additionally, in April 2018, she acted as the host for the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. As time passed, it was announced that Chakrabarti would follow Dr. John Sentamu as Chancellor of York St John University in October 2019.
Chakrabarti took over in March 2020 and in November 2021 appeared on an episode of BBC Two’s Celebrity Antiques Road Trip. In the same month, Chakrabarti appeared in a special Children in Need episode of Bargain Hunt on BBC1.
Throughout his career, Chakrabarti has received numerous awards and nominations. She was named an Honorary Fellow of Exeter College, Oxford in 2018. Furthermore, she was named an Honorary Doctor of Letters by York St John University in 2018 and an Honorary Fellow of University College, London in 2019. In addition, she is also an Honorary Fellow of University of East London.
