David Highfield biography
David Highfield is an American journalist who currently works at KDKA-TV as a morning announcer on “Your Day Pittsburgh” with Heather Abraham. Highfield and Heather also host “Pittsburgh Today Live,” KDKA-TV’s popular daily talk/lifestyle show. After his education, he attended Ford City High School and graduated from Syracuse University’s SI Newhouse School of Public Communications with high honors.
Most notably, he began his career as a writer in 1991 at KDKA before being promoted to news producer. He then went in front of a camera, first as the Westmoreland County bureau chief and later as the Beaver/Butler bureau chief. Highfield spent years as a 11 p.m. reporter and fill-in anchor, and in 2020, he became the KDKA News noon anchor. Reports of him aired on WCBS in New York and KCBS in Los Angeles.

Highfield has donated his time to local charities including the KDKA-TV Turkey Fund, Animal Friends, Persad Center, Hir Peace, American Red Cross, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County.
Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards and nominations. He won 12 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, both for hosting and reporting. In addition, he has won two Edward R. Murrow regional awards: one for his report on a possible connection between the Marcellus Shale drilling and earthquakes, and another for an examination of how smoke detectors often don’t wake up children. Additionally, David has won Golden Quills for reporting, awards from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and a Matrix award for flood coverage.
