Billy Porter is an American singer, actor, songwriter, playwright, director, and vocal coach. He is famous for winning the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for Kinky Boots in 2014.
As an American Broadway theater actor, Porter obtained Musical Theater skills at the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School of Drama and also at Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, where he graduated with a BFA in Drama. Billy also earned a certificate from the University of California’s Graduate Professional Screenwriting Program.
It is then that he became famous for performing on Broadway before becoming a single singer and actor. His soulful Broadway production landed him on Billboard’s R&B charts, and in 2013 he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Lola in Kinky Boots at the 67th Tony Awards.
