Ellison admitted that before she got a call from her doctor with the bad news that she had a cancerous patch on her back, she never knew how necessary it was to protect her skin. Although her doctor had removed it if the cells had already dispersed, she was advised to undergo another operation to remove more skin. She admits that while skin cancer is treatable, the news has her worried.
She imagined what would have happened if she had forgotten or if she hadn’t been detected by the doctor in time. The next day, Ellison went to the doctor and removed more skin, needing 50 stitches. When her doctor told her that the contaminated cells had not spread, she later received a clean bill of health. The big scar left behind still reminds her to care for and protect her skin. A photo was tweeted by Ellison claiming that only 1% of skin cancer is due to melanoma. The tweet was followed by a message to her fans to always wear sunscreen, stop tanning and get daily skin tests.
