Steve Lavin biography
Steve Lavin is an American journalist who currently works as a coach, sports broadcaster and college basketball analyst for Fox Sports and the NCAA Turner. He joined Fox Sports in August 2015. Prior to that, he spent three years as a college basketball analyst for Pac-12 Networks in San Francisco. Furthermore, he worked as a college basketball analyst at ABC News for six years and eight months. He was also a college basketball and NBA draft analyst for over six years at ESPN.
Steve is a graduate of Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo. During his high school years, he won the 1982 California state championship with a 34-0 record as a member of the basketball team. He later spent two years at San Fransisco State University where he played for the basketball team and then transferred to Chapman University and majored in communication, graduating in 1988.
After graduation, he began his career as an assistant coach to Purdue head coach Gene Keady, where he worked for three years. However, he later moved to UCLA and worked as an assistant in 1991 under coach Jim Harrick. Prior to joining UCLA, he spent five years as an assistant coach on the Bruins team.
In addition to his career, he worked as a head coach of men’s basketball at St. John’s University in 2010. His team won two NCAA appearances with three of his teams earning 20 or more wins. Furthermore, he led the team to a second NCAA tournament appearance and a 21-12 record between 2014 and 2015. However, he left the season on March 27, 2015.
