
Ryan’s April Biography
April Ryan is a veteran American reporter, author and White House correspondent for The Grio. From January 1997 to November 2020, April served as White House correspondent and Washington, D.C. bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks. In 2017, Ryan joined CNN as a political analyst.
Ryan began his career as a Jazz disc jockey before becoming a reporter. She worked for several radio stations in the northeastern and southeastern United States before working for the White House press corps. Notably, she worked for Morgan State University radio station WEAA-FM and WXYZ-FM in Baltimore, Maryland, serving as the news director.
She has been a member of the White House press corps for 23 years, where she worked as a reporter. Furthermore, she tagged a boutique radio company American Urban Radio Networks from January 1997 to November 2020.
She is currently a member of the National Press Club, The Gridiron, as well as one of three African Americans who have served on the board of the White House Correspondents Association. as a White House correspondent, April covered four presidential administrations.

Seeing the success of the latter, Ryan published her third book, Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House in 2018.
As a member of the National Press Club, Ryan has appeared on MSNBC, NBC and News One. In 2014, she was named a Young Leader of the American Swiss Foundation. Additionally, Politico named her one of the top 50 on the Washington D.C. watch list.
For her outstanding work, April won the National Association of Black Journalists Journalist of the Year award in 2017. Additionally, she received an honorary doctorate from Claflin University.
