Matt started gaining popularity while still in high school. He first got an audition for master of ceremonies in his school’s talent show. Eventually he got the MC gig and was later described as the best costume for the mic case.
He also worked as a professor at Stony Brook University after graduating from high school. It was while he was there when a professor had fun with his students and guided Siegel into getting into show business.
He then took his first job as a radio presenter at a radio station based in Oneonta, New York on a day shift. In 1972, he moved to KWFM-FM in Tucson, AZ. KWFM is a radical underground progressive rock station. After leaving radio broadcasting, he became a commercial announcer for Warner Bros Records while still working as a freelance producer.
In 1977, Siegel went on vacation to Boston, and while there, he got a job at WBCN-FM. During this time, Charles Laquidara, a radio DJ for “The Big Mattress” was on leave. He replaced him and after two months on the morning show, he was confirmed as the permanent midday presenter. He worked at the station for two and a half years.
Furthermore, Matt started a fake call show under the name “Dr. Matt’s Advice to the Love Lorn” while still working with WBCN-FM. This landed him a new job at WCVB-TV (Channel 5) as a host of the show “Five All Night Live”.
He later made a national appearance co-hosting Steve Allen in Life’s Most Embarrassing Moments. He was offered to work on the morning spot, Matty in the Morning with KISS 108 FM in the summer of 1980.
