Alan Autry is an American politician, actor and former National Football League football player. He gained popularity for his role as Captain “Bubba” Skinner on the NBC television series In the Heat of the Night starring Carrol O’Connor and other films.
Autry was in Riverdale High School, where he was a star quarterback for the Riverdale Cowboys. He also received an athletic scholarship to the Pacific University. Alan was a second-tier tight end his senior year with the Tigers.
He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1975, where he ended up the following year. Alan was the starting quarterback for three games. In 1979, Alan made an attempt at a return to football. He played for the CFL’s BC Lions as Carlos Brown. However, Alan’s football career was cut short by then-coach Bart Starr. He then decided to move to Hollywood to become an actor.
