Andy Lack biography
Andy Lack is an American businessman, television executive and film executive. He is the past president of NBC News and MSNBC, having served from 2015 to 2020.
Born in New York City, Lack attended the Browning School in New York. Afterwards, he attended Connecticut Boarding School The Gunnery. Having done well, Andy entered the University of Paris, Sorbonne and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Boston University, from which he graduated in 1968.
After graduation, Lack appeared in several television commercials and off-Broadway productions. Later, in 1976, he joined CBS News as a TV commercial producer. He then did 60 Minutes before taking on another role producing CBS Reports between 1978 and 1985.
In 1982, Lack served as a correspondent on The American-Israel Connection. He later worked with Boll Moyers in the early 1980s as a producer on Our Times With Bill Moyers (1983) and Crossroads (1984).
In 1976, Andy got a job at CBS News as a producer on Who’s Who, a personality-based television show. This led to a long-term job as a producer for 60 minutes. In that role, he produced “Inside Afghanistan” and “Kissinger and The Oil Embargo” to name just a few.
Later, Lack became the executive producer of CBS Reports, a position he held for 7 years. He followed closely with one more role, The Executive Producer of West 57th, a long-form news show cast by Meredith Vieira.

In 1993, Andrew was hired as president of NBC News in an effort to restore the news division’s credibility. This was after the News show, Dateline faked an explosion during a truck safety segment.
Under his tenure, he ran NBC Nightly News with anchor Tom Brokaw to be the number one nightly news show in just three years. He also expanded Dateline from once a week to multiple nights in a week.
He moved later today to a new $15 million street studio, Studio 1A. Within the show, he replaced Bryant Gumbel with Matt Lauer. Lauer led Today to be the highest-rated morning news of the period.
Additionally, MSNBC was created under Lack’s management. In 2001, Andy left the news division to serve as president and chief operating officer of NBC.
