Muller began his career at WTOC-TV, a CBS affiliate in Savannah, Georgia. He filmed and edited his own stories. In most cases, John received an immediate and intense education in military coverage by reporting on the mobilizations of troops from Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield during the attacks in Panama and the Persian Gulf War.
After two years, he moved to Florida, where he worked as a reporter for WBBH-TV, an NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, where he won the Best Individual Achievement award for overall excellence in the state of Florida. John reported dramatic coverage of hurricanes, including the devastating Hurricane Andrew.
In addition, after three years at Fort Myers, Muller reached the top 20 rating in the business, catching the attention of WFLA-TV, an NBC affiliate in Tampa, Florida. He spent three years at the WFLA as the lead reporter for the 11 pm news, the highest-rated local news in the state. While in Tampa, Muller won the Associated Press Award for Best Spot News Reporting.
Furthermore, he returned to his hometown where he worked with WNBC-TV as a reporter for the number one show “Today In New York”.
