Quest began his career as a trainee journalist at the BBC in 1985, later joining its finance section in 1987. In 1989, he moved to New York to serve as the BBC’s North American commercial correspondent.
Later, Richard worked for the BBC USA as part of their then undeveloped BBC News 24 channel. He worked as a business correspondent reporting and discussing the world stock market in a segment entitled World Business Report.
This program aired between 2:00 am and 3:00 am where he performed alongside Paddy O’Connell. He also occasionally appeared on the BBC’s Business Breakfast programme.
