Deon Cole is an American comedian, actor, and screenwriter famous for his role in the sitcom Black-ish (2014-22), in which he played Charlie Telphy. This role earned him nominations for the NAACP Image Awards and two SAG Awards. On June 25, 2020, Cole became the second panelist to win the Dorris Award on the ABC version of Tell the Truth.
He has also been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for co-writing the late-night talk shows The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Conan. Born and raised in Chicago, he attended Thornridge High School and later graduated from Philander Smith College. He got his start in comedy when a friend bet him $50 that he wouldn’t go on stage one night in Chicago.
Cole frequently appeared in comedic bits for both telecasts and even received two Primetime Emmy nominations along with his crew. He also performed on Conan O’Brien’s Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television tour in 2010. In February of the same year, he performed on “Comic Aid Haiti”. From 2016-2018, he was on the cast of Angie Tribeca.
