Jude Akuwudike is a Nigerian-British actor who gained fame for appearing in several plays and productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. He also gained more fame for portraying the role of Joshua in Disney’s The Little Mermaid live-action film in 2023. Jude’s other famous roles are in A World Apart (2018), Richard II (1997), Eyimofe (2020) and Bad Girls (2005).
Akuwudike was born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa. Therefore, Jude finished his education and initial studies in Nigeria. He then moved to the UK to continue his studies at Westrate-on-Sea boarding school in 1985. Jude eventually joined the Royal Academy of Art where he graduated in 1987.
Akuwudike made his acting debut playing the role of Captain Watkin in 1988 in a stage production called Our Country’s Good, performed at the Royal Court Theatre. He then made his film debut in a film called A World Apart in the same year. In 1989, Jude landed his first leading role in a Buth Theater production called The Fatherland by Murray Watts.
He then made his screen debut playing Seargent Gummer in a serial drama called Virtual Murder in 1991. Jude landed his breakout screen role in a 2005 film called A Likeness in Stone. His other major roles are in TV shows and movies like Roteiro (1990), Roger Roger (1996), Calor do Sol (1998) and Bad Girls (2005).
