Biography of Andre Muniz
André Muniz de Aguiar is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who competes in the Middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He began training mixed martial artists as a teenager, and at the age of 15, he won his first white belt championship in Montes Claros. Muniz was born and raised in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, and completed high school at a local school in his hometown.
He later enrolled at Faculdades Unidas do Norte de Minas, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He made his professional career in 2009 when he fought in the regional circuit. While there, he defeated Ary Santos and emerged as the winner of the record-breaking MMA fight. In 2019, he was invited to the Brazilian version of DWCS at Dana White’s Contender Series Brazil 2, where he defeated Bruno Assis. For his performance in the fight, he earned a contract with the UFC.
Before joining the UFC team, he fought his last fight against the undefeated Taylor Johnson at Dana White’s Contender Series 23 and ended up winning in the first round. After joining the UFC team, he fought for the first time with Antonio Arroyo at UFC Fight Night: Błachowicz vs. Jacaréwith and emerged as the winner. Later, André faced Bartosz Fabiński at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Sakai in September 2020 and won the fight. Therefore, he was scheduled to face Andrew Sanchez at UFC 257, however, he pulled out of the fight. Furthermore, Muniz also won the title of Submission of the Year by the mixed martial arts media as well as the UFC itself.
Prior to this, he faced world champion Ronaldo Souza at UFC 262 and won the fight via technical submission in the first round. In 2021, he fought Eryk Anders and won the fight in the first round. Later, Andre was scheduled to face Uriah Hall in April 2022, however, the fight was rescheduled due to unknown reasons. A month later, he fought Uriah Hall and emerged as the winner via unanimous decision. This year, he fought Brendan Allen at UFC Fight Night 220 and was defeated by him in the third round. In July, Muniz is scheduled to face Paul Craig at UFC on ESPN 49.
