Daveed Diggs is an American actor, rapper, and musician from Oakland, California. He gained fame for voicing Sebastian in the 2023 live-action version of The Little Mermaid and for the recurring role of Johan Johnson on the ABC family comedy Blackish. Diggs also gained more fame for appearing as an experimental hip-hop vocalist and rapper for a famous 2015 band called Clipping. Diggs has also won several awards, including the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actor for playing dual roles in a famous Jefferson musical known as Hamilton. Diggs also received the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2016.
Diggs grew up in a mixed-race family living in Oakland, California. He was named Daveed by his father who is a believing African-American Jew.
