Caris LeVert is an American professional basketball shooter/small forward who is connected to the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers as 20th in the overall selection during the 2016 NFL draft. He completed his college career at the University of Michigan and his high school career at Pickerington Central High School, Ohio.

Caris Coleman LeVert was born on August 25, 1994, in Columbus, Ohio in the United States; Caris was born to African-American parents, Darryl and his wife Kim LeVert. His mother works as a first-grade teacher, while his father worked as a graphic designer before his sudden death on April 4, 2010. He grew up with his younger brother Darryl LeVert in Northeast Columbus. He is the third cousin of Eddie LeVert, a famous American musician and lead singer of the band group The O’Jays.

1. He Began His Basketball Career at Pickerington Central High School

During his school days in Pickerington, LeVert was both a great athlete and a basketball player. He played both the shooting guard and a small forward position for his school team. At that time he was a teammate of Jae’Sean Tate, who currently plays for the Telenet Giants of the Belgian professional basketball league. In his senior year, 2012, LeVert helped the Pickerington basketball team win the Division I National Championship title while he was named Metro Player of the Year by Columbus Dispatch Magazine. He also received the Associated Press award for the second All-Ohio team. At the end of his high school career, LeVert received a three-star rating from Scout.com and Rivals.com.

2. He Committed to Ohio Bobcats but Chose Michigan Wolverines For His College Career

At the end of his high school career, Caris LeVert was scouted by many top universities, but he got involved with coach John Groce of the Ohio Bobcats basketball team. However, after Groce left the Bobcats, LeVert decided to choose the University of Michigan for his college career. The Michigan Wolverines were now one of the top recruiting universities in the country at the time and were the champions of the Big Ten Conference in 2011-12.

LeVert played four seasons for the Wolverines from 2012 to 2016, averaging 3.3 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists, and 8.2 points per game. In his second year, LeVert showed a big improvement in his game, scoring 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 12.9 points per game. He was appointed to the All-Midwest Regional Team alongside Marcus Lee and Julius Randle. As a junior, LeVert was named co-captain alongside Spike Albrecht; however, his junior year was cut short due to injuries. He finished the season with an average of 3.7 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 14.9 points per game.

Although he was listed as a possible second-round player for the 2015 NBA draft, Caris LeVert decided to finish his last year with the Wolverines before being declared for the NBA draft. In his senior year, he injured his fifth metatarsal, but then signed up for the NBA Combine with crutches. While recovering, he was reportedly encouraged by NBA star Kevin Durant.

During the 2016 NBA draft, Caris LeVert wrote an open letter to the NBA assuring them of his resilience as he recovered from his injury. The amazing star was later selected by the Indiana Pacers as the 20th player to be selected in the first round of the draft. He was then sent to the Brooklyn Nets, while the Pacers received Thaddeus Young in return. Caris has completed his second season of professional play with the Nets. In the 2016/17 season he averaged 3.3 rebounds and 8.2 points per game, in the 2017/18 season he made 3.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 12.1 points per game.

Caris LeVert has only one sibling, Darryl LeVert, who was named after her father. Caris LeVert is eleven months older than his brother Darryl. Just like Caris, Darryl played college basketball with the Connors State College men’s basketball team.
