Juan Fernandez is an American journalist who currently works as a news anchor at KCAL9 News (CBS2). It docks on weekdays at 4pm and 9pm. Prior to that, he worked as a general reporter at WSVN-7 and WLTV-23/Univision, and at Rede Telemundo.
Juan attended Christopher Columbus High School. He then attended and graduated from Miami Dade College. In addition, he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and broadcast journalism from Florida International University.
Before coming to Los Angeles from Miami, Florida, he was a general reporter for WSVN-7, as well as WLTV-23/Univision and Telemundo Network. During his time at CBS2 and later at KCAL News, he acted as Weathercaster and anchored newscasts on both stations.
Over the years, he’s covered some of Southland’s biggest stories. Favorites of his include presidential visits and the arrival of the space shuttle Endeavor and its final journey through the streets of Los Angeles to the California Science Center.
Juan is fluent in Spanish. In this regard, he is an advocate of the importance of learning more than one language and is an advocate of literacy. Among his community service projects, Juan especially enjoys mentoring students who are pursuing careers in broadcasting.
