John MacArthur Grace Biography
John MacArthur Grace is an American non-denominational pastor and author, famous for his Christian radio and television show Grace to You. He is also pastor of Grace Community Church. He has been pastor of this church since February 9, 1969, and is currently the dean of The Master’s University in Santa Clarita and of the Master’s Seminary.
Being a strong and prominent preacher, he was recognized by Christian Today as one of the most influential preachers of his time. In addition to his influence, he has written or edited over 150 books. MacArthur Study Bible is one of his most prominent books, which sold over a million copies and also received a Gold Medallion Book Award.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he enrolled at fundamentalist Bob Jones College from 1957 to 1959. After a year off, he was accepted into the Los Angeles Pacific College of the Free Methodist Church. In his final year there, he received a Master of Divinity from the Bible Institute at the new Talbot Theological Seminary in Los Angeles. In addition, he received honoraria from Talbot Theological Seminary and Grace Graduate School.

MacArthur has been involved in some controversies over the years regarding his remarks on certain topics. In addition, he is an outspoken critic of same-sex marriage, women’s ordination, and the Roman Catholic Church. In connection with this, he delivered several sermons where he discusses these issues.
Recently, during the global COVID-19 crisis, he violated the orders of Los Angeles County public health officials regarding Grace Community Church services. He insisted that no one in the church became seriously ill, despite reports to the contrary.
After this incident, Los Angeles County sued the church for its refusal to close, and the church counter-sued, alleging that the country was violating freedom of religion rights. Eventually, the lawsuits were resolved. After everything was resolved, the county and state paid $400,000 each to Grace Community Church.
That was not the end of controversy for John, in a 2021 sermon, John asserted that true democracy and freedom of religion are against the teaching of Scripture. In addition, he spoke of a book publisher who declared that the Biden administration would support religious freedom. In turn, he claimed that lobbying for religious freedom was advocating the worship of false gods, which is antithetical.
In 2022, he came under renewed criticism from prominent Christian sources when videos of the sermons drew attention. Not only that, but MacArthur has also been accused of promoting a white supremacist interpretation of the Curse of Ham.
