Mike Avery is an Emmy Award-winning American journalist who has worked at FOX 17 News as an anchor for the Fox 17 Morning News since 2010. Avery joined the station’s staff in 2005 as a weekend anchor for the 10pm show.
Previously, Mike was a morning news anchor at The EW Scripps Company from June 2005 to 2010. He was also an anchor for WJCL ABC 22 and WTGS FOX 28 Television from September 2001 to May 2005.
Additionally, Avery served as Sports Director on WVII/WFVX/BANGOR from October 2000 to August 2001, after leaving KSLA TV as the weekend sports anchor from January 1999 to September 2000. Additionally, Mike was a weekend sports anchor on KNOE-TV 8 based in the Monroe, Louisiana area from March 1997 to December 1998.
Mike has been honored for his good work over the years, including an Associated Press award for continued coverage of the Kalamazoo Flood in 2008, as well as an AP for Best Sportsman in Louisiana in 1998.
Avery enrolled in East Syracuse Minoa Central High School in 1984 and graduated in 1987 with his high school certificate. Later, in 1988, she joined The Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications, Journalism and Related Programs in 1992.
