Bob Lamey is an American sportscaster/sports journalist and former play-by-play radio host for the Indianapolis Colts (NFL) since moving to Indianapolis in 1984 (except 1992, 1993, and 1994) seasons until his retirement in 2018. Previously, he was the radio voice of the Indiana Pacers (1977 to 1984) and the two unused hockey teams, the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association and the Indianapolis Checkers of the International Hockey League.
Lamey went to Texas Christian University and later earned a master’s degree from Ohio University. However, he is also a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees. After his first arrival on the Indianapolis sports scene in the 1970s, he was known as Hockey Bob. Lamey was also sporting director for the Indianapolis radio station WIBC and also a reporter for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.
Additionally, the sports announcer provided play-by-play for the national broadcast of the 100th Monon Bell Classic. Bob was also the voice of the ABA’s Carolina Cougars for five years. Lamey was also the Sports Director for WSOC-TV, Charlotte, North Carolina. He also broadcast Charlotte Checkers (Eastern Hockey League) games from 1964 to 1968 at WSOC 930AM. Unfortunately, in August 2018, he suddenly announced his official retirement. However, he has been widely known for some colorful language in the air.
