William Geist is an American television personality and journalist who is currently co-anchoring MSNBC’s Morning Joe and anchoring Sunday Today with Willie Geist. Geist often serves as a fill anchor in both the weekday and Saturday editions of Today.
Additionally, William is a correspondent for NBC News and NBC Sports, hosting and contributing to NBC’s Olympic coverage. Additionally, he hosted Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks and Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on NBC.
Willie attended George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he met his future wife Christina Sharkey. Geist is a proud cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University, where she was editor of the school’s newspaper, The Vanderbilt Hustler.
Willie began his career as an editor and producer for CNN Sports Illustrated. Eventually, he worked as a field producer and reporter for CNN Sports, where he covered the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and Masters.
Geist then began filling in as co-host on MSNBC’s 6-9 am time slot almost immediately after Don Imus was fired in April 2007. He later appointed permanent co-host of Morning Joe, along with Jose Scarborough. and Mika Brzezinski in September 2007.

In July 2009, Willie began hosting his own 30-minute show Way Too Early with Willie Geist, which airs at 5:30 am immediately before Morning Joe on MSNBC. Geist began replacing Matt Lauer as host of the Today Show as the show’s newsreader.
In November 2012, Geist became an official co-host of Today and left Way Too Early and later a solo presenter of the new Sunday Today, released in April.
Additionally, Geist solo anchored NBC’s hour-long coverage of the Orlando nightclub shooting on the morning of June 12, 2016. Willie was on the air for seven successive hours in an NBC News special that aired on United States. Additionally, Geist and the Sunday TODAY show won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for similar coverage on August 4, 2019, the morning after the mass shootings in El Paso, TX, and Dayton, Ohio.
