Drew grew up in the Boston area and attended Elon University in North Carolina, where he began his career as a producer at WFMY. He graduated from Elon University in 2011 with a BA in Journalism and a Major in Broadcast News.
While in college, Drew interned at New England Cable News in Boston as a newsroom intern and at NBC Nightly News with Brian Willimas in New York. In December 2010, Drew joined WFMY News 2 in Greensboro, North Carolina as a freelance producer.
Smith began his on-air journalism career in South Carolina at the WBTW in Myrtle Beach and later joined the WSPA in Greenville-Spartanburg. For his remarkable career, the South Carolina Broadcasters Association honored him as the 2014 Reporter of the Year.
In March 2015, Drew joined NBC10 as a reporter. At the station, Smith covered several big stories, including Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia and the deadly Amtrak derailment in Port Richmond.
