Huw Edwards is a Welsh journalist, presenter and newsreader who currently works for the BBC’s flagship news programme, News at Ten. It also features BBC coverage of state and international events and the hour-long BBC News at Five on the BBC’s news channel BBC News. Edwards occasionally features BBC News on SIX, BC News at One, BBC Weekend News and Daily Politics, as well as the BBC’s international news channel BBC World News, either as a relief or as BB’s chief presenter.
He presented BBC coverage of important royal occasions such as the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle and the burial of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He took over as presenter of the BBC’s election night coverage of David Dimbleby, and was also the main presenter of coverage of the 2019 general election on 12 and 13 December.
Edwards was born in the Welsh city of Bridgend. He went to Llanelli Boys High School and graduated from cardiff college with a degree in first class French in 1983. He began postgraduate work in medieval French at Cardiff University after his first degree, before working as a reporter for the local radio station Swansea Sound and later joining on the BBC. Huw also has a Ph.D. from Trinity University Saint David in Wales.

Edwards did some work experience at the commercial radio station Swansea Sound before joining the BBC as a news intern in 1984. He joined BBC Wales as a parliamentary correspondent in 1986. At its height in the UK, the broadcast attracted 20 million people, and the team won a BAFTA award for best coverage of a live event.
In August 2021, Edwards admitted that he was contemplating his future. “Now that a big milestone is here, which is 60 years, it’s only natural for a man to think, ‘Am I going to continue this job for another five years, or do I want to do something different?’” he said. he told BBC Radio Cymru. “The nightly news business, after 20 years, can be exhausting, although I still enjoy the job. But I don’t think I’ll do that for long. Because I believe that, first of all, I think it’s fair for viewers to have a change.”
