Philip Serrel biography
Philip Serrell is an English auctioneer, antiques expert and television presenter, best known for his various BBC antiques programmes. He changed his career from a professor to an auctioneer, working in the local cattle trade until he qualified as a surveyor in 1988, specializing in fine art and antiques.
Philip currently owns a firm of auctioneers and appraisers with offices in Worcester and a sales room in Great Malvern. He is also a regular expert on the BBC series Bargain Hunt and Flog It! and also made a few appearances on ITV’s Dickinson’s Real Deal.
Serell appears in other BBC series Antiques Road Trip and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. In addition, he regularly appeared on BBC Local Radio and wrote a biweekly column for the Worcester News.
Born and raised in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, Philip attended the Royal Grammar School in Worcester, where he was a schoolmate of Pakistani cricket captain Imran Khan. He also attended and graduated from Loughborough College of Physical Education as a professor of physical education.

Serrell began his music career in 2017 recording a rock version of the traditional “Sleigh Ride” for the benefit of BBC Children In Need with fellow BBC antiquities experts Charles Hanson, Charlie Ross and James Braxton. Grahame and Jack Corbyn, father and son, produced the track, which was released digitally by independent record label Saga Entertainment. The song reached number one on Amazon’s rock charts.
During the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, Philip Serrell met with fellow BBC antiques experts James Braxton and Charlie Ross (antiques expert), as well as a celebrity supergroup known as The Celebs, which included Frank Bruno and the X Factor winner Sam Bailey, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and Action for Children.
They recorded a new version of Shakin’ Stevens’ “Merry Christmas Everyone”, which was released digitally on December 11, 2020 by independent record label Saga Entertainment. The day before the album’s release, the music video appeared on Good Morning Britain. On the iTunes pop chart, the song peaked at number two.
