David Harper is a British antiques expert, published writer, artist, speaker and event auctioneer who is famous for appearing on Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt. He has been a regular face on the BBC for many years, having led Bargain Hunt, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and Cash in the Attic.
Born in the north of England, David had the chance to spend much of his childhood in Zimbabwe. His father moved to this country with the army and later became MD of a company there. Throughout his life, David has always been fond of antiques and started working full time at age 18.
In the mid-1990s, his family moved to Florida, where his father’s sister was a realtor. Immediately after moving here, David opened an antique shop, but later left Florida and was heading back to the north of England. During the beginning of his career, he shipped antiquities to and from the United States. He later became director of a British PLC company that imported antique style rubber tree furniture from the Far East.
His first appearance as a specialist in media antiques was at age 25, when he participated in a Radio Tees live phone call. This would lead to numerous media appearances, notably Cash In the Attic, Bargain Hunt, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and Antique Trip. Talking about Antiques Road Trip, he won the first series in April 2010, raising £2,488 for Children in Need.
