Mark Stacey Biography
Mark Stacey is a veteran Welch appraiser, television personality and auctioneer best known for his regular appearances on BBC shows as an antiques specialist. He has made regular appearances as an antiques specialist on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt, Flog It!, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and Antiques Road Trip. Prior to joining the antiques trade, Mark worked as a residential social worker, initially as a trader before working at various auction houses.
Born in Neath, Glamorgan, South Wales, Mark moved to London and worked for Bonhams and Sotheby’s auction houses. He later became Head of Decorative Arts and later Director of the Hamptons // Dreweatt Neate Fine Art.
In 2011, Mark opened an antique shop in Kemptown, Brighton, East Sussex. Later, in 2014, he became an auctioneer and appraiser for Reeman Dansie Auctioneers in Colchester, Essex. Stacey found an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus, leaning against a house in Essex, and sold it for £13,500.
In June 2009, Mark participated in a lighthearted interview on the BBC’s The Daily Politics lunchtime show, where he was asked for advice on the value of items belonging to famous people following the UK Parliament expenditure scandal.
Stacey is the author of several books, including Visual Intelligence (2013), World War II Vichy French Security Troops, and Dragon Rampant: Fantasy Wargaming Rules, among others.
