Emily Chang’s Biography
Emily Chang is a journalist, executive producer and author for American Broadcast, anchor and executive producer for Bloomberg Technology. Bloomberg Technology is a daily TV show focused on global technology, where she speaks to senior executives, investors and entrepreneurs. In regards to her being an author, Chang is the author of Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys’ Club of Silicon Valley. The book alleges sexism and gender inequality in the tech industry.
Born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii, she attended and graduated from the Punahou School in 1998. Later, in 2002, she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies from Harvard University.
Prior to joining CNN in 2007, she served as a reporter at KNSD, an NBC affiliate in San Diego, California. While there, she won five regional Emmy Awards. Most notably, she started her career as a news producer at NBC in New York. Eventually, she joined CNN in 2007 as an international correspondent in Beijing and London. She, however, left CNN in 2010.
While in Beijing, she related a wide range of stories. These stories include the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China’s economic transformation and its environmental consequences, the floods in southern China in 2008 and the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, among other stories that made international headlines.
Additionally, while in London, she covered international news for CNN’s American Morning. She has covered European and international events. She even had a one-on-one interview with Benazir Bhutto, the former prime minister of Pakistan. This interview took place weeks before his murder.
After leaving CNN in 2010, she joined Bloomberg Television the same year. On February 28, 2011, she became the anchor of Bloomberg West. Later, in October 2016, the program was named Bloomberg Technology. She interviewed people like Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook COO Sherly Sanberg and Apple CEO Tim Cook, among others.
Furthermore, she is also the host of Bloomberg Television interview series Studio 1.0. On the show, she interviewed Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Marc Andreessen and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, among others.
