Melissa Harrison is an American journalist currently working as a reporter on NBC 5 with over two decades of journalism experience. A native of Texas, she is excited to return to her roots and cover news in North Texas.
Most notably, her career began at NBC’s Waco affiliate as an executive producer. Melissa landed her first on-air job at KRBC-TV in Abilene, where she co-hosted the 6pm and 10pm newscasts. She went on to report on WAPT-TV in Jackson, MS, where she covered top stories, including the Pearl High School shooting trail. After that, she became a reporter and anchor for WFAA-TV. As a weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter, she has covered stories including the Texas Seven Escape Search and the DC Sniper attacks.
In 2004, Melissa moved to New York to pursue her master’s degree at the Columbia University School of Journalism. While in New York, she continued her career in television news as a reporter and WNBC-TV and as a writer on ABC’s World News Tonight. In 2015, she returned to North Texas and worked as a freelance reporter for NBC 5 before transitioning to radio and starting work as a morning anchor on KRLD-AM.
