Jennifer Mayerle biography
Jennifer Mayerle is an Emmy-winning journalist and currently works for WCCO as an anchor for WCCO Saturday Morning from 8 am to 9 am. She returned to WCCO in May 2014 as a reporter, where she initially began her career as an intern.
Since joining the WCCO, Mayerle has been part of the 10 o’clock news team that received a regional Murrow Award for its coverage of the Jacob Wetterling case. The award also recognized reporting on the arrest of her kidnapper and murderer Danny Heinrich.
Jennifer was also recognized by the RTNDA with a Murrow for “Spreading Kindness”, the story of a young woman with cancer who, along with her sisters, developed friendships with her garbage men. In addition, she was recognized in Minnesota with an Emmy Award by the Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
During his course of work, Mayerle had the pleasure of covering the Ryder Cup, reporting on several major golf tournaments, including The Masters.

She also received an Emmy for her in-depth analysis of the lasting impact of concussions and repeated blows to the head on athletes from the youth stage to the professional level. Reports from her prompted Georgia legislators to pass the Return to Play Act, a law designed to protect young athletes.
In 2011, Jennifer won an Emmy, a Murrow and a Georgia Associated Press award for her reporting on Ann Bartlett, a woman who died in a burning house. From this, Mayerle learned that it was due to the firefighters’ failure to respond properly to his 911 call.
One of their reports is notable for saving lives. This was an investigation she opened into counterfeit smoke detectors purchased by the Atlanta Fire Department and distributed to low-income residents. These reports led to an FBI investigation of the distributor, later forcing the department to remove and replace over 18,000 defective detectors.

Before moving to Atlanta, Jennifer worked as an anchor and weekend reporter for WKRG in Mobile, AL. While there, she gained international recognition for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina. She won her first Emmy and Murrow Awards for her interview with Hardy Jackson in Biloxi, Mississippi, hours after his wife was swept away by the deadly floodwaters.
