Katie Sowers is a renowned offensive football assistant coach who has currently worked with the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL since 2017. Upon joining the 49ers, Sowers became the first LGBTQ+ head coach in NFL history.
Sowers joined Hesston College and Goshen College in the 2000s. Later, in 2010, she advanced to the University of Central Missouri, graduating with a Masters in Kinesiology in the year 2012.
During her final days in Goshen, Katie began her football career. She first played for the West Michigan Mayhem and Kansas City Titans in the Women’s Football Alliance.
While still playing for Kansas, Katie was a member of the United States women’s national football team. This team won the 2013 IFAF Women’s World Championship. It was while with the Kansas City Titans when she retired in 2016 due to a hip injury.
