James Merritt is an American senior pastor and founder of Cross Pointe Church and presenter of broadcast ministry Touching Lives.
Merritt was saved at age 9 and entered the ministry in 1973. From 2000 to 2002, Merritt served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention. After he was chosen president, many people signed up and currently, over 15.8 million people have signed up and there are over 40,000 places of worship in the United States.
James shares God’s incredible message through an innovative message, as his motivation remains to lead lost spirits to an individual experience with Jesus Christ. Merritt has served on several boards of the Southern Baptist Convention, including the Chairman of the Executive Committee and the Chairman of the Pastors’ Conference of the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
Having tolerated the call to preach when he was 21, James went to Stetson University, where he earned his college degree. He further studied for his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
