David Phelps biography

David Phelps (David Norris Phelps) is an American Christian music vocalist, songwriter and vocal arranger. He is best known for singing tenor in the Gaither Vocal Band. He has also recorded several solo albums, including four Christmas collections.

On January 13, 2008, Phelps appeared in Extreme Makeover Home Edition for the Woodhouse family. He was raised in a musical family based in Tomball, Texas, near Houston. After his graduation from Tomball High School in 1988, he joined Baylor University from which he graduated in 1992. This was a degree in music and vocal performance. While at Baylor University, David directed the Baylor Religious Hour Choir.

His talent in music can be noticed from an early age. Even when he was performing at church in his teens, David knew that one day he would be a great artist. As a result, he developed an interest in traveling the world sharing music, inspiration and good news.

He served as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1997 to 2005 and again from 2009 to 2017. In this group, he shared tenor notes with Wes Hampton from 2009-2017 before leaving the group to focus on a solo career.

As a solo artist, David received the 2009 Dove Award nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year. He was also nominated for Long Form Video for the Christmas DVD, O Holy Night, to add to his many awards and honors.

Her 2012 live concert DVD debuted on Billboard’s Music Video Chart at number one. Since its release, the record has received much respect from both the gospel genre and music.

In 2015, he released another album, Freedom. This record also climbed to the Billboard Music Video Chart at number 1.

Most recently, in April 2017, The Best of David Phelps: from the Homecoming Series reached number one on the Billboard Music Video Sales chart. He has spearheaded prominent video releases such as The Beatles’ Eight Days A Week and Eric Clapton’s Live In San Diego, as well as Adele’s Live At The Royal Albert Hall.

That same week, David’s Freedom video was in the top 20. In 2017, David launched his latest account, Hymnal. Throughout the story, David lends his imagination to probably the congregation’s most beloved songs. The chronicle features breathtaking vocals and lavish courses of action as each song takes the audience on a journey of in-tune motivation and love.
