Mike Breen biography
Mike Breen is an American NBA play-by-play sports commentator on ABC and is the main announcer for New York Knicks games on the MSG Network. He also calls NBA games for ESPN and was formally a play-by-play announcer for the New York Giants’ preseason games. Additionally, he calls NFL season regular games for the NFL on Fox and the NFL on NBC.
Mike was raised in Yonkers, NY, and attended St. Paul the Apostle. He later graduated from Salesian High School in 1979. Mike also graduated in 1983 from Fordham, University. After his graduation, he first worked with the Knits as a radio announcer for WFAN from 1992 to 1997, when he was promoted to television following the firing of Marv Albert following his infamous sex scandal.
He later became Albert’s backup on his return in 1999, before finally becoming the bid-for-bid leader following Albert’s dismissal in 2004. On February 8, 2006, with Al Michaels leaving the net, ABC announced that he would take over as the main broadcaster for the NBA, including the NBA Finals.

Most notably, his broadcasting career began playing for the Marist College Red Foxes basketball team in 1985. He has also announced at five Olympic Games during his career, one Winter Olympics and four Summer Olympics. Mike also has the voice of NBA Live, starting with NBA Elite 11, alongside his usual ESPN partners Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. However, the series was canceled indefinitely. He was also a fixture on the radio as well.
On the other hand, he started his professional radio career as a sportscaster on WNBC radio in the early 1980s and frequently replaced Dave Sims as the “SportsNight” host on the station. From 1988 to 2000, he did the sports segment on WFAN and nationally syndicated Imus on the radio show Morning talk/comedy.
He became known for his deadpan delivery of fake sports news, as in the mid-1990s he reported that in the previous night’s Mets game, “Félix Millán went 4-4 with 3 runs scored” (Millán retired in 1977) .
