Chip Yost’s biography
Chip Yost is an American journalist who currently works as a reporter for KTLA and head of the Orange County Bureau. Yost joined KTLA in February 2007, and while he reports on almost everything, his passion and background is in investigative reporting.
Chip grew up in Ohio and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at University of Cincinnati. After working as an outside sales representative for AirTouch Communications in Los Angeles, Yost returned to school to pursue his master’s degree at columbia university Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
Prior to joining KTLA, Yost worked as an investigative and general reporter for television stations in Denver (KUSA-TV), Tucson (KOLD-TV), Yuma (KYMA-TV) and San Diego (KGTV-TV). Chip won the 2013 Orange County press Club award for “best investigative story” in the online streaming/video category for his coverage of an upholstery company that allegedly fails to fulfill customer orders.
He also won an Emmy for a story that had him tracking down escaped fugitives from the Colorado Department of Corrections. Additionally, Yost won a DuPont Silver Baton (equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize for broadcast journalism) for another story in which he exposed how a police car could turn into a death trap for officers. He also received a Golden Mike Award for his KTLA report on squatters taking over homes in an upscale Riverside neighborhood.
