Biography of David Bernard
David Bernard is an American meteorologist who currently works as the Chief Meteorologist at WVUE-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana. Prior to that, he worked as a meteorologist for CBS News and television stations in Miami, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A native of Huston, Texas, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austine. He later attended Mississippi State University. After graduating, he began his career as a television meteorologist, providing forecasts in the Tornado Alley region of the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma. He first worked at television stations KZTV in Corpus Christi, Texas and KVII in Amarillo, Texas.
After a while, he moved to WWL-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1997. David was the station’s morning news weatherman for eight years. For his coverage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, he received critical praise for Dave Walker. David left the WWL in the summer of 2005 for a new role at Miami TV station WFOR, a CBS affiliate.
Six weeks after his departure from New Orleans, he was sent back to New Orleans to cover the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, he was named a national hurricane advisor for CBS News in 2008 and has covered hurricanes Gustav, Ike, Issac, Irene and Sandy. Bernard returned to New Orleans to work for WVUE-TV and was appointed chief meteorologist after several months.
