Bryshere Y Gray is an American actor and rapper best known for his role as Hakeem Lyon on Empire. He is also known for his portrayal of Michael Bivis in the 2017 BET miniseries The New Edition Story. In addition to acting, he is an accomplished musician who has released several popular rap songs.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States of America, he attended Overbrook High School. Growing up, he always had a passion for music and even started writing and composing songs in high school. After graduating from high school, he attended the Community College of Philadelphia.
His music career started after a local talent scout discovered him. In 2015, he released his first single “Don’t You Agree”, which received positive reviews. He signed with No Limit Forever and released his debut album “Bryshere Y. Gray Presents: The Gray Area” in 2016. The album featured collaborations with several well-known artists including Timbaland and Pusha T.
His acting career began in 2015 when he was cast in the role of Hakeem Lyon in the Fox musical drama series Empire. His performance on the show received critical acclaim and he quickly became a fan favorite. Later in 2017, he appeared in The New Edition Story and later appeared in Canal Street in 2018.
Recently, on July 13, 2020, Gray was arrested by the police in Goodyear, Arizona following an alleged domestic violence incident with his wife that culminated in a roadblock situation with the police. He is facing charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence and disorderly conduct. Furthermore, he has been charged and sentenced to 10 days jail and 3 years probation after the attack on his wife on May 24, 2021.
