
Caitlin Clark Biography
Caitlin Clark is an American college basketball player who currently plays as a point guard for the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big Ten Conference. Most notably, at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, she was named a McDonald’s All-American. She was also ranked fourth in her class by ESPN.
In her first season at Iowa, she led NCAA Division I in scoring, three-pointers, and total assists. Clark was named a second-team All-American; and won the Dawn Staley Award. As a sophomore, she was named Big Ten Player of the Year. She was also selected as a first-team All-American by all major women’s basketball selectors.
Additionally, she has won three gold medals representing the United States at the international youth level. Clark was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2021 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup. Born in Des Moines and raised in West Des Moines, Clark began playing basketball at age five and was the only girl on a boys’ youth team. She also played softball, volleyball, soccer, and tennis as a child before focusing on basketball. In sixth grade, she joined the All-Iowa Attack and Amature Athletic Union basketball program based in Ames, Iowa.

She was inspired by Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx, the WNBA team closest to her hometown, and traveled three and a half hours with her father to watch games. Clark also admired her cousins, Haley and Audrey Faber, who played for Dowling Catholic High School.
On November 25, 2020, she made her collegiate debut for Iowa, recording 27 points in a 96–81 victory over Northern Iowa. She set the Iowa freshman record with 26.6 points per game and recorded the fourth-highest scoring per game in a single season in Iowa history.
At the end of the regular season, she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection. She shared two NCAA Division I Freshman of the Year awards with UConn’s Paige Bueckers. She recently reached the 1,000-point mark in Iwa’s first game of the 2022 schedule and the 40th of her career, making her the fastest Big Ten women’s player to reach the milestone.
