Adrien Brody is a Hollywood actor and producer who gained worldwide recognition after playing Wladyslaw Szpilman in the biographical drama film The Pianist of 2002. The film not only earned him an Oscar for Best Actor, but he also became the youngest actor ever to win an award in this category. He also won the César prize for the best actor for the same film and became the only male American actor to win this award.

The Pianist is definitely not Brody’s first movie; he has been acting since childhood and has acted in several other movies such as The Thin Red Line, King Kong, The Village, The Darjeeling Limited, The Predators, Peaky Blinders, The Grand Budapest Hotel and many others.

Adrien Brody Brief Bio (Ethnicity)

Adrien Brody was born on April 14, 1973, in Woodhaven, Queens, New York, the son of Sylvia Plachy and Elliot Brody. His father is a retired history professor and painter, while his mother is a photographer. Brody’s father is of Polish Jewish descent and his mother was born and raised a Catholic.

His maternal grandfather is a Hungarian aristocrat and his maternal grandmother is of Czech Jewish descent. Adrien grew up with neither a strong connection to Judaism nor to Catholicism. He attended the I.S. 227 Louis Armstrong Middle School and the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, New York. After high school, he went to Stony Brook University before being transferred to Queens College for only one semester.

Adrien Brody Career

As a child, Adrien Brody performed little magic tricks at children’s birthday parties with the stage name Amazing Adrien. Since his parents recognized his talents and potential at an early age, they enrolled him in acting classes and sent him to summer camps to separate him from the dangerous children he was associating within the neighborhood.

At the age of 13, he starred in an off-Broadway play and a PBS television movie. In 1996, he appeared in a crime movie Bullet, which featured actor Mickey Rourke and rapper Tupac Shakur. In 1998 he played Chris Calloway in an independent film restaurant, which earned him a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award. That same year he appeared in The Thin Red Line and the following year he played Ritchie in Spike Lee’s crime thriller Summer of Sam.

He gained widespread recognition in 2002 after playing Wladyslaw Szpilman in the biographical drama film The Pianist. To take on the role, Adrien Brody made astonishing sacrifices, such as separating from his girlfriend of the time, giving up his car, his apartment, losing 13 kg (29 lbs), and learning Chopin on the piano.

His sacrifices paid off at the end of the day. The film was not only a huge success but also won him an Oscar for Best Actor, making him the youngest actor ever to win an award in this category. His performance in the film also earned him a César prize, making him the only male American actor to win this award.

After “The Pianist”, movie fans saw Brody next in “Dummy”, where he played the role of Steven Schoichet. The film was originally shot in 2000 but was released in 2003, after having been widely distributed after his role in The Pianist. He was later to appear as Noah Percy in M. Night Shyamalan’s film The Village.

In 2005, he appeared as author Jack Driscoll in the remake of King Kong. The film was a huge success, earning over $500 million worldwide and still being Brody’s most successful film financially. His other films include The Jacket, The Darjeeling Limited, Hollywoodland, Splice, Predators, Midnight in Paris, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Dragon Blade, Peaky Blinders, and many others.

He has also appeared in some commercials like Schweppes and Diet Coke. Brody was also featured in Stella Artois’ beer commercial called “Crying Jean”, which premiered at the Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Texas, after the halftime break of the Super Bowl XLV, as part of Stella’s “She Is a Thing of Beauty” campaign?

Adrien Brody also starred in Tori Amos’ music video for “A Sorta Fairytale” and in 2012 he was a catwalk model for Prada Men. He is also a recipient of the Leopard Club Award.
