Alan Jackson is a renowned American country music singer and songwriter who was one of the most famous male country musicians of the 1990s and early 21st century. Jackson is known for mixing traditional sounds of honky-tonk and mainstream country-pop, as well as writing many of his own songs.

Alan grew up in rural Georgia singing gospel music and performing as a teenager in a country duo. After dropping out of high school and marrying his high school sweetheart, Denise, Jackson did odd jobs while still playing with his band, Dixie Steel.

after his wife Denise, a flight attendant, met country artist Glen Campbell at an airport in 1985, Alan’s demo tape earned him a songwriting contract with Campbell’s music publisher. Later, the duo moved to Nashville.

In 1989, Alan became the first artist to be signed to the country division of Arista Records, where he released his debut album, Here in the Real World. In 1991, Jackson became a member of the Grand Ole Opry and acknowledged his roots in 1999’s Under the Influence album. This album featured his rendition of songs by artists such as Merle Haggard, Charly Pride and Gene Watson. He also recorded with Jones, George Strait, Randy Travis and Jimmy Buffett.

In response to the tragedy of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Alan wrote a song that describes the range of reactions to the day’s events. His song, “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” won song of the year awards by both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. Alan also won a Grammy for best country song.

In 2006, Jackson released two albums that were dominated by songs written by other Precious Memories, a collection of 15 anthems, and the intimate Like Red on a Rose. Eventually, he released Good Time (2008), Thirty Miles West (2012), The Bluegrass Album (2013) and Angels and Alcohol (2015), confirming his enduring popularity. Furthermore, Alan was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
