Biography Alex Cullen

Alex Cullen is a well-known Australian journalist and TV presenter. Currently, he works on Nine Network’s breakfast show Today as a sports presenter. Cullen was born in Dubbo, New South Wales, although he was raised in Coonamble. He completed his secondary education at Coonamble High School and later enrolled at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview.

Subsequently, Alex attended Charles Sturt University, where he majored in Journalism. Shortly after university he was hired by Prime News in Wagga Wagga as a reporter. Prior to joining the GWN7 Network, Cullen worked as a reporter for the Golden West News in Kalgoorlie.

In 2006 he became a staff member of Seven News in Perth. There he served as a general reporter for a few months before moving on and joining Sunrise. In addition, he also returned to Seven News and worked as a general reporter again. On Seven News, he made headlines covering news such as the Melbourne Cup and the inspirational story of Jane McGrath.

His career changes in 2009 after landing a position as a sportscaster on Today Tonight. There he worked together with veteran Ian Ross and, later, Chris Bath. Furthermore, he has also worked with other channels like ABC Local Radio, 2BS, B-Rock FM and 2GB. In 2010, Alex was promoted to work on Seven Sunday Night shows, with Tony Squires replacing him as evening sports presenter during Seven News Sydney.

He later joined the Nine Network after the Seven Network shut down on Sunday night. At the end of 2019, Cullen joins the Today program team as a sports presenter, after replacing Tony Jones. As of 2023, Alex has been replaced by Brooke Boney as the newscaster on Today, taking over news and entertainment while focusing on sport.
