Andrey Valeryevich Arlovsky was born on February 4, 1979, in Babruisk, Belarus, and grew up with a strong desire to defend himself. At the age of 16, Arlovski began to engage in martial arts such as judo, sambo, and kickboxing.
He enrolled in the police academy in Minsk, while pursuing his professional interest in law enforcement, he actively participated in martial arts and took the required police defense course in sambo. Until 1999, his expertise in martial arts earned him a number of awards, including two silver medals at the Sambo World Championship and the Sambo World Championship.
Andrei Arlovski also won the Youth World Championship and the European Sambo Youth Championship and crowned it all with the title of First Master of Sports and then International Master of Sports. In his debut at UFC 28, Arlovski defeated his opponent by submission. His rise to the UFC elite after his victory fight with former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia earned Arlovski the new UFC heavyweight interim heavyweight champion title on February 5, 2005. He defended the title twice, on June 4, 2005, at UFC 53 and in October 2005 at UFC 55 to be recognized by the UFC as the undisputed heavyweight champion. He was defeated in a rubber match with Sylvia at UFC 61 on July 8, 2006, where he was seriously injured.
Nevertheless, the Belarusian fighter won his subsequent fight at UFC 70 against Fabrício Werdum, a two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion.
In his last appearance in the octagon after 11 months of inactivity, Arlovski defeated Jake O’Brien against TKO, which would be the first MMA defeat of the latter ever. The Pit Bull, as he is known, left the UFC with a record of 10-4, including 3-2 in title fights.
Arlovski signed with the newly formed MMA promotion Affliction Entertainment and continued his winning streak. From 2006-2008 he won five fights at UFC 66 – Liddell v Ortiz 2; UFC 70 – Nations Collide; UFC 82 – Pride of a Champion; Affliction – Banned; and EliteXC – Heat.
His days at Strikeforce from 2009-2011 were concluded with a series of defeats (four consecutive defeats) from January 24, 2009, at Affliction – Day of Reckoning. However, in order to improve his fighting skills and rebuild his MMA career, Arlovski began training in New Mexico, exclusively with one of his coaches, Greg Jackson, who encouraged him not to give in to the pressure and retire.
After several months of grueling training, the Pit Bull made a comeback against heavyweight Ray Lopez on August 27th in ProElite 1 in Hawaii. He dominated his opponent throughout the fight and won by TKO in the third round. His fourth fight with his long-time nemesis, Sylvia at ONE Fighting Championship: Pride of a Nation on August 31, 2012, ended in a non-competition due to an illegal (now legal) kick that would have made Arlovski the winner through TKO.
Arlovski continued to fight from 2012 after signing with the Asia-based advertising agency ONE Fighting Championship in mid-July 2012. He fought in the World Series of Fighting and Independent Promotions (2012-2015), where he won all 8 fights except the World Series of Fighting 2 against Anthony Johnson on March 23, 2013.
Upon his return to the UFC, Andrei Arlovski participated in 12 fights (2014-2018), six of which he won, including the UFC 222 against Stefan Struve on March 4, 2018, where he scored one of the four best takedowns of his career.
