John Andrew Henry Forrest, also known by his nickname Twiggy, is a famous Australian businessman. He is popular as the former CEO of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG). He currently serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Fortescue. Andrew also owns several charitable organizations, the most prominent being the Minderoo Foundation, which he co-established with his wife.
Forrest is originally from Perth, Western Australia, Australia. He attended Onslow Primary School and later transferred to Chris Church Grammar School and then Hale School. Thereafter, he enrolled at the University of Western Australia where he majored in economics and politics. Shortly after graduating, he worked as a stockbroker at Kirke Securities and Jacksons. Later Andrew left and joined Nickel Mining founded by Anaconda Nickel. In 1993, he became the CEO of Anaconda Nickel after buying a stake in the company.
The company is currently one of Australia’s largest mineral exporters with its Murrin Murrin Joint Venture nickel project. Furthermore, he also took over Allied Mining and renamed it as Fortescue Metals Group (FMG). Forrest is also the major shareholder of FMG, through The Metal Group. Prior to that, FMG also had large iron ore deposits in places like Mount Nicholas, Cloudbreak, Christmas Creek and Tongolo. In 2007, he took over Niagara Mining, which controls mining deposits around Laverton, Western Australia.
Furthermore, Andrew also bought back Minderoo Station, the property that his father had sold in times of financial trouble. In addition, he also owns other properties like Nanutarra, Uaroo stations and Harvey Beef Company. Forrest owns 46% of the shares of Allied Medical, which was acquired by BioMD in June 2011. He currently serves as non-executive chairman of FMG, in addition to managing its mining and farm industries. He is also the Ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation.

In 2001, Forrest along with his wife, Nicola, created the Australia Children’s Trust.
