Ben Handelman biography
Ben Handelman is an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award-winning American journalist who currently works as an anchor and reporter at WITI Fox6 in Milwaukee. He joined the network in April 2011 and is the anchor of the weekend nightly news.
Since joining the network, he has traveled state and country as an anchor and reporter for Wisconsin’s largest newsroom. Handelman is excited to call Milwaukee home. He came to Milwaukee from the woods of Connecticut and through some of the largest farmland in the country in Illinois before finding a home in the brewery town.
Ben grew up in northwest Connecticut and attended Quinnipiac University (GO BOBCATS!) where he graduated. His passion for being a professional storyteller earned him his first job at WICS, an ABC affiliate in Springfield, Illinois. He rose through the ranks and moved to sister station WICD in Champaign, Illinois, where he met his wife.
At that time, his wife worked as a reporter for the competition. Ben and his wife Ashley Sears found a way to be in the same group when they both went to FOX6 in Milwaukee. He says they like to work together better than against each other.
Additionally, at Fox6, Handelman anchored and reported all morning and evening news. He can currently be found anchoring weekend nightly news and also reporting for FOX6 News at 9 and 10 on weekdays.

During his tenure at Fox6, Ben covered some of Wisconsin’s biggest stories, from the Sikh Temple and Azana Salon shootings to the Sherman Park riot in 2016. Additionally, he walked with Brett Favre during his return to Lambeau Field and helped pushing cars stuck in snow for several Wisconsin winters.
Additionally, Handelman traveled across the country where he experienced the devastating F-5 tornado in Oklahoma and the aftermath of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. While in Dallas, he also saw the resilience of officers who had to go back to work after 5 of their colleagues were killed, and he was within feet of Air Force One for two different presidents.
In his career, Handelman has gained recognition from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association, and Milwaukee Press Club.
During his free time, Handelman enjoys running with his wife Ashley along the lake or going to one of the millions of festivals in his large hometown. Likewise, in 2016, he started a silly boating blog to share photos of Milwaukee’s vigorous shipping industry.
Handelman is also on a lifetime journey to sample as much Mexican food as he can find. He’s always looking for story ideas or recommendations for his next adventure.
