Bill Hemmer is an American journalist currently anchoring Fox News’ hourly 3 p.m. hour. Hemmer assumed this position in January 2020 to replace Shepard Smith, who resigned from the station after 24 years of service (since 1996). Additionally, he is the chief breaking news anchor at Fox.
Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to his father, William Bill, a retired manufacturing company executive. He then joined Our Lady of Victory (Cincinnati), a Catholic parochial school that later moved to Elder High School in Cincinnati in 1983.
During his senior year at Elder High School, Bill and a friend started a radio show that played 15 minutes of music before school started. He referred to this as the beginning of an interest in radio broadcasting.
Hammer graduated in University of MiamiOxford, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. While at the University of Miami, he joined the Delta Tau Delta society and studied in Europe at Dolibois European Center at the University of Miami. Hemmer began his career in sports production at WLWT-TV in the mid-1980s, where he discovered his passion for live broadcasting. During his senior year at the University of Miami, Bill was offered a position at WLWT-TV as a sports producer. However, it wasn’t long before he moved to CBS affiliate WCPO-TV as a sports anchor.
Between 1995 and 2005, Bill worked at CNN, where he hosted a variety of programs including American Morning, CNN Tonight, CNN Early Edition, CNN Morning News and CNN Live Today.
In August 2005, Hemmer joined Fox News, where she has worked as a morning co-anchor of America’s Newsroom. However, in January 2020, she took on a new role as host of the TV show, Bill Hemmer Reports, and chief anchor of breaking news and other major live events.
