Bill Plante is an American journalist and veteran reporter who is known for being a White House correspondent during the administrations of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barak Obama. During the administration of the first President Bush, Bill was a State Department correspondent for CBS News from 1989 to 1992.
His reporting is seen on CBS News platforms, including “CBS This Morning” and “CBS Evening News.” Following his formal credentials, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in 1959. He also studied political science at Columbia University graduating in 1964.
He has been based in the Washington office of CBS News since December 1968. Prior to his first White House assignment, he covered general and off-year elections. He even covered national political conventions. In 1968, Bill reported on the campaigns of Hubert Humphrey and Richard Nixon. Also, in the summer of 1976, he covered Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale’s campaign for vice presidency.

Later, from 1988 to 1995, he served as the anchor of “CBS Sunday Night News”. From 1966 to 1976, he served as a correspondent in the Chicago office. During that time, Bill served two of his four tours of duty in Vietnam. More recently, Plante worked as a Senior White House Correspondent for CBS.
