Bret Baier biography
Bret Baier is an American journalist currently the host of Special Report with Bret Baier on Fox News Channel and the main political correspondent for Fox. Prior to that, he worked as the network’s chief White House correspondent and Pentagon correspondent.
Born and raised Catholic, Bret attended the Marist School, a private school roman catholic college in Atlanta Georgia, he later graduated in 1988. University of Pauw in Greencastle, Indiana, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and English. At the University, Baier became a member of Chapter Xi of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He began his career with WREX-TV (NBC 13) in Rockford, Illinois, before joining WRAL-TV, then a CBS affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also worked for WJWJ-TV (PBS 2) in Beaufort, SC. Bret submitted an audition page to FOX News in 1988, where he was hired as the network’s Atlanta bureau chief.
In addition, he received the 2017 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, the National Press Foundation’s highest honor for a broadcast journalist.

Bret is currently the main political anchor for the FOX News Channel as well as the anchor for “Special Report with Bret Baier”. He is currently based in Washington, DC, however, he joined the network in 1998 as the first reporter for the Atlanta office.
Baier, Kelly and Chris Wallace anchored three GOP debates for Fox News Channel in 2016, with a record 24 million viewers at one of their debates in Cleveland, Ohio.
During his tenure on the network, Bret interviewed President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, former President Barack Obama, former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney.
He also anchored over thirty political specials on the FNC, reported from Iraq 12 times and from Afghanistan 13 times. In addition, he traveled the world with various administrations and military officers and reported from 74 countries. His show, Special Report with Bret Baier, was recognized by Joe Klein of TIME magazine as the only “direct newspaper” on cable news at 6pm/ET. He also received the 2017 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
